Let’s Prepare for Feeding the Way We Prepare for Birth
In recent years, there has been a positive shift towards empowering women to understand their options during the birth process. Working in the hospital as Labor and Delivery nurses, we have seen it first hand: people arrive armed with knowledge, preferences, and confidence to labor and deliver in their preferred way, and it’s AMAZING. But when mother's are asked how they plan to feed their baby, many people respond “I will try to breastfeed, but I’m ok if it doesn’t work”.
Now, let’s be clear. WE want you to be “ok if it doesn’t work”. We believe mom’s mental health is paramount. But what do you WANT? Do you want to exclusively breastfeed? Do you want to exclusively pump? Do you want to feed breastmilk and formula? And do you know the steps to take to make it happen?
At ForeMilk, we want you to understand your options and empower you to achieve your feeding goals. We want you to have the same level of knowledge and confidence when it comes to feeding your baby that you have for the labor and birth process. We want you state your feeding goals with pride and enthusiasm, and have the tools to start off on the right foot and troubleshoot common hurdles that can arrive within the first few days at the hospital.
So, how do we get there?
Let’s start by making a prenatal lactation consultation. We can answer your specific questions and concerns. We can evaluate your medical history and pregnancy course to identify opportunities to improve the likelihood of meeting your goals. We can help you understand normal newborn behaviors that are commonly mistaken as signs that something is “wrong”. We can involve your partner or support person so THEY can learn how to support YOU. We can get to know each other so that IF a feeding concern arises, you know we’re here for you.
A prenatal consultation is aimed to give you the confidence to start off strong. Contact us today to set up your prenatal consultation.
